The morning on the water
Four hours on Nam Lolwe.
Excursions depart from our own jetty aboard MV Jabura, which we operate, timed to the early morning stillness when the lake is calmest and its wildlife most active. Your captain shapes the route around the conditions of the day, keeping a respectful distance from the hippo pods and pausing wherever the birdlife gathers.

What to bring
- A hat, sunglasses and sunscreen that is safe for the water
- A light jacket, as the water carries a cool breeze before the sun climbs
- A camera or binoculars for the wildlife and birdlife
- Bottled water for the morning
- Comfortable, secure footwear for boarding
Life jackets are provided and worn throughout.
On the water
- Please remain seated and follow your captain's guidance, particularly near hippo pods
- Swimming in the lake is not permitted
- Speak softly and avoid sudden movement when wildlife is near
Sightings vary with the season and the hippos' own movements. Our guides know these waters well and will do everything they can to bring you close, safely and quietly.
